Humidification

Nature has an old but efficient way of humidifying and cooling air:
Evaporation of water
This simple, yet most efficient, law of nature has been used by Munters in evaporative cooling systems since the 1950s. When air moves over a water surface it causes some of the water to evaporate. This evaporation results in a reduced temperature and an increased vapour content in the air. The bigger the area of contact between the air and water the more evaporation occurs resulting in more cooling and addition of moisture. Munters have improved the efficiency of the process, by designing new contact media of air and water to interact. The fill and the contact materials used are intended to provide the greatest possible surface area in the smallest possible volume, and to permit the passage of air through them with the least possible pressure drop. The range of Humicool products evolves from these materials called CELdek and GLASdek.

Cooling of Greenhouses
Many plants grow poorly in high temperatures. Yet, the temperature in a greenhouse can be up to 15 degree C higher than the ambient temperature outside. Thus, in most cases, some form of cooling is required to cool the inside of the greenhouse to improve the quality of the plants. The cheapest form of cooling the air is by means of natural evaporation of water into the air stream. As was explained in our introduction Munters Celdek pads magnify this process, thus increasing the cooling efficiency. Celdek evaporative pads are used widely in cooling of greenhouses. With Celdek the evaporation takes place solely at the pads without the water being introduced into the greenhouses in liquid form (droplets). Water is distributed over the pads via a low pressure distribution system without the need of nozzles. These factors gives evaporation cooling with Celdek the following benefits:

  • Cheap, effective cooling without risk of excessive droplets of water damaging plants and creating uncomfortable working conditions.
  • Labour saving - not having to clean spray nozzles.
  • Only low pressure pump required.
  • The water distribution system also creates a self-cleaning mechanism, thus minimising clogging. It also has the benefit of removing some of the dust from the air entering the greenhouses.
We can supply the Celdek pads with or without the water distribution system (Cooldek) to be installed on the wall of greenhouse separately from the fans or we can supply a packaged unit (Horti-cool) incorporating the pads, water distribution system, pump and fan.
